About Tidemark
01What does Tidemark do?
It shows where your disk space went, what has been growing and how to get space back safely. It scans your drives, adds up space per app, explains Windows’ own system space, remembers past scans so you can see what grew, and clears what is safe to clear through the Recycle Bin.
02Which versions of Windows does it run on?
Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, and Windows 11, on x64 PCs. Fast scan needs a drive formatted as NTFS, which is the default for Windows drives.
03Where do I get it?
Tidemark is distributed through the Microsoft Store, which signs and updates it. The Store listing will be linked from this site as soon as it is public.
04How is it different from WizTree or WinDirStat?
Those show you what is big right now. Tidemark also remembers past scans, so it can say which folders grew and when a drive will fill, adds space up per app, explains Windows’ system space and cleans it with Microsoft’s tools. The comparison pages go through it tool by tool.
05Does it run in the background?
Only if you turn it on. Daily snapshots and the hourly check are optional per-user scheduled tasks that take a few seconds and show no window. Tidemark installs no services and no drivers.

Safety
01Can Tidemark delete something important?
Tidemark is built so that it does not. You review everything before it moves, removals go to the Recycle Bin, items that cannot be recreated are explained instead of offered, and Windows’ own space is cleaned only with Microsoft’s tools.
02Why does Windows ask for administrator permission?
Only for three things you start yourself: Fast scan (reading the Master File Table needs it), cleaning Windows’ system space with Microsoft’s tools, and uninstalling a program installed for all users. Tidemark never asks for it on its own.
03Will sharing a duplicate AI model break Ollama or LM Studio?
No. Tidemark checks both files again, creates an NTFS hard link and only then removes the extra copy, so every tool still finds its file at the same path. It refuses OneDrive folders and copies on different drives.
04What happens to files changed recently?
Limits never touch files changed in the last 24 hours, so a session or download in progress is never cut short.

Tidemark Pro and payment
01What is free and what is Pro?
Overview, Clean, Explore, Apps, running uninstallers, AI tools, System, finding duplicates, daily snapshots and the Collector are free with no time limit. Pro adds snapshot comparisons and forecasts, Limits, Watches, sharing duplicate AI models, Developer cleanup, Fast scan, clearing what uninstalled apps leave behind and stopping AI tools.
02Is it a subscription?
No. Tidemark Pro is one payment, and it includes the updates that come through the Microsoft Store.
03How many PCs can I use it on?
Up to 3 PCs at a time. Deactivate a PC in Settings › Tidemark Pro to move the key to another one.
04How do I activate Pro?
After you pay, Dodo Payments emails you a license key. Paste it into Settings › Tidemark Pro and choose Activate. It needs an internet connection once.
05Does Pro stop working offline?
No. Tidemark re-checks the key about once a week when it can. Being offline never turns Pro off; only a key reported invalid (for example after a refund) does.
06Can I get a refund?
Yes. Ask within 14 days of buying and you get your money back, no questions asked. The refund policy has the details.
07Who handles the payment?
Dodo Payments, the merchant of record. They take the payment, handle tax and send the receipt and license key. Tidemark never sees your card details.

Privacy
01Does Tidemark send my files or scans anywhere?
No. File names, sizes and history stay on your PC. There is no account, no telemetry and no ads.
02What does it send over the internet?
Only when you activate Pro and about once a week after that: your license key and your PC’s name, to Dodo Payments, to check the key.
03Where does Tidemark keep its data?
In %LOCALAPPDATA%\in.thryveapps.tidemark: the history database, remembered scans and a log. Uninstalling Tidemark from Windows removes the app; you can delete that folder to remove its data too.
